This home, constructed by local contractor Fenton Construction, was planned, designed and constructed with a focus towards providing a high quality, energy efficient, durable home that limits the environmental impact of both home construction and habitation. A number of steps were taken to ensure that the original vision was kept intact during the process, including the decisions to work with an energy consultant and third-party verification company, Active Energies, and to obtain Built Green Colorado® certification.
Built Green Colorado® is a local Colorado based green building program that shares many of the same ideals as Fenton Construction, and verifies the construction of new homes under a point based system. Certification is achieved when the project receives 75 points, a level that this home greatly exceeded at 257 points. Improved Energy Efficiency
Through the use of a 96% efficient boiler, a photo-voltaic (PV) solar system supplying over 30% over the home's electricity, a consistent thermal barrier (insulation) around the entire home with above code insulation levels, windows exceeding the ENERGY STAR® requirements for Colorado's mountain areas, and reduced air leakage in the building envelope verified through a blower door test.
Improved Indoor Air Quality
Provided by the installation of all closed combustion mechanical systems (boiler, water heater, and all fireplaces), installation of heat recovery ventilators (HRV's) to provide fresh air to the interior of the home while expelling stale interior air and pollutants, and installation of carbon monoxide detectors and radon removal systems.
Reduced Resource Consumption
Highlighted products include: All framing materials are engineered lumber for unsurpassed structural integrity and longevity, ENERGY STAR® labeled refrigerator, dishwasher and clothes washer, a high efficiency irrigation system, 40 year roofing materials.
